This research methods workshop examines Chamberlain Gardens, an inner city housing estate in the Ladywood area of Birmingham, built in two phases between 1961-66. Based on our preliminary research and initial discussions with those associated with the site today, alongside visiting the site, we decided to assess the original design intentions that were implemented for Chamberlain Gardens with its variety of residents, and to further examine the extent to which the current condition of the site as it stands today fulfils those original intentions of the designers. We found it interesting that many of the original elements of the site still survive today, as we mapped the buildings, landscape and amenties that were originally implemented across the site to fulfil a purpose.
